They observed and took pictures of the fiery reddish glow over the Pacific and reported to Air Traffic Control. The glow appeared after a flash of distant lightning and but the cause remains unexplained. Scientists assumed it might be a reflection of a volcanic eruption beneath the ocean.

Near the island of Yonaguni, a group of divers found a range of strange constructions resembling architectural buildings in 1986. The artifacts such as stones with symbols, scrapers, and animal bas-reliefs, of the construction, has led some to conclude that the features are man-made while some believe it to be a natural formation.
