China is one of the largest countries in the world with numerous attractions for tourists. From world-famous landmarks to its buzzing cities to its water towns and range of natural wonders, China has everything. To really explore China it would take months. While we certainly can’t put all of those places in one article, here are some places that you should explore in China.
1. Explore The Cities:
Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou are the must explore cities in China with of course Hong Kong. The Great Wall of China is the first thing that comes into our mind when we think of China, you can explore this historical site while in Beijing.

2. Zhangjiajie And Jiuzhaigou:
The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is located in Zhangjiajie City and it is home to the famous Floating Mountains or Hallelujah Mountains. You can take a hike or simply observe these natural wonders. There are many things to explore in Zhangjiajie such as the ‘Heaven’s Doorway’ Mountain to the chilling cliff-side glass path.
The Jiuzhaigou National Forest Park is located in Sichuan and it is one of the most beautiful parks you will see. The park is famous for its straight out of a fairytale-like appearance, with calm and crystal clear water. The Jiuzhai Valley is a must visit in China.
3. Yellow Mountain and Hongcun Village:
In the Huangshan region, you will find bizarrely shaped rocks and trees jutting from a sea of shifting mists. It’s truly one of China’s most surreal and beautiful locations. The Yellow Mountain attracts thousands of tourists while the Hongcun Village will feel like a fresh breath of air.
4. Yangshuo and Yangtze River:
Untouched natural beauty, serene rural landscape, and a generous spread of lush-green are what made Yangshuo County. The Three Gorges in Yangzi River is definitely worth visiting. Tiger Leaping Gorge located in Yunnan Province takes you high above the Yangtze River along the Jinsha River.
Another fairytale-like place in China is the city of Guilin. The karst landscape along the Li River has captured the heart of artists, you will find it in many Chinese paintings and poems. Also, don’t forget to explore the Longji Rice Terraces. The Elephant Trunk Hill and Reed Flute Cave are other top attractions of this city.
Chengdu is the capital of southwestern China’s Sichuan province where you will meet one of the world’s most beloved animals, fluffy giant pandas in the world-famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. There are other places to explore in the city too like the Wangjiang Pavilion Park and Dujiangyan Irrigation System. Also from here, you can take a trip to see the Leshan Giant Buddha.
7. Lhasa, Tibet:
Tibet is a gem itself. Potala Palace is a landmark of Lhasa city, which is probably the most popular spot for tourists. Other attractions in Lhasa include the Jokhang Temple and Lukhang. In Tibet, you can visit the Mt. Everest and Yamdrok Lake.
Known as the “most beautiful countryside in China”, Wuyuan is a picture-perfect is a county in the northeast of Jiangxi province. This place is quite remote. The oilseed flower, the cole flower scene in spring, maple leaves view for its autumn creates one of the largest flower seas in China.
Sanya has the most beautiful beach in China facing the South China Sea, Sanya enjoys the best coastal scenery of Hainan Island. With a soft white sandy beach, pure sea water it is a perfect place for some quiet time. Yalong Bay along with Sanya Bay and Dadonghai Bay are ideal places for strolling, swimming, diving and water skiing. You can also explore Wuzhizhou Island and Phoenix Island.
10. Danxia Landforms And Lexiaguo:
Various landscapes found in southeast, southwest and northwest China are referred to as The Danxia landform. This layered sandstone with vivid reds, oranges, and yellows stripe along the mountains look like they are made of pressed crayons. You can take a hike to enjoy the overview. Another colourful place is Lexiaguo, vibrant soil and a canvas of crops creates China’s “Red Land.” Different seasons, different time, different sunlight, produces a different kind of colours.
