Fashion designing is one of the most famous and diverse forms of arts. It is influenced by many aspects such as the culture and lifestyle of the people of that society. Designers also have to keep track of whatever’s trending and what the masses want. While we all have dreamt of wearing luxurious designs from our favorite designers, for most of us it’s way out of our budget. But that does not stop them from getting famous or rich. The most famous designers are also one of the richest. These are the designers that have a huge influence on our society.

  1. COCO CHANEL

Channel is one of the most famous and largest fashion brands in the world. And its founder Coco Chanel is one of the greatest fashion designers of all time. Her contribution to the fashion industry is widely recognized. The legendary quotes of Chanel have been inspiring people for decades. The French fashion designer and businesswomen was credited in the post-World War I era for her liberating designs for women. The legend who gave us the very famous Little Black Dress and products like the iconic Chanel No. 5, is the only fashion designer on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Chanel also designed the brands interlocked-CC monogram by her self.

2. DONATELLA VERSACE

Donatella Versace took control of the Versace Group after her brother Gianni Versace was killed in 1997. The Italian fashion designer was very close to her brother. She was a muse and critic to Gianni Versace. She has been taking the fashion world by storm and currently one of the leading fashion designers. Donatella Versace is also one of the richest fashion designers in the world. The vice president of the Versace Group was dedicated a perfume by her Gianni Versace in the 1980s. With the perfume called Blonde, Gianni gave her her own fragrance label, Versus. She has been listed as one of the best fashion designers in the world. Donatella is known for being the first ever fashion designer to use A-list celebrities for promoting her designs on the catwalk, rather than going for models.

3. CHRISTIAN DIOR

In 1946 Christian Dior the fashion house Dior. The French fashion designer worked at the fashion house of Lucien Lelong, with Balmain. They were designing dresses for the wives of Nazi officers and French collaborators during World War II. Dior launched his first collection in 1947, but it was hugely criticized and protested against by the public. Many women were protesting because his designs were covering up their legs, which they were unused to as previously there were limitations on fabric. Dior faced a huge backlash because of the amount of fabric he was using in a single dress. He was even criticized by Coco Chanel. But after the war and the wartime shortages ended that same collection named New Look revolutionize women’s clothing. Christian Dior passed away in 1957. Dior is currently owned by Groupe Arnault.

4. GEORGIO ARMANI

The Italian fashion designer is considered as one of the best designers in the world. He is famous for his clean tailored line. In 1975 Giorgio Armani created his company, Armani. He was acclaimed as the most successful Italian designer in 2001. Armani is considered as one of the most innovative designers. Armani was the first designer who banned models who were under 18 on the Body Mass Index after the death of model Ana Carolina Reston. In 2017 his personal fortune worth $8.1 billion. In his early years, Armani wanted to have a career in medicine and now he is often credited with pioneering red carpet fashion. Armani also earned many awards and honors in his life.

5. RALPH LAUREN

The American designer, Ralph Lauren is one of the most famous designers in the world. Ralph has been honoured and awarded numerous times across his career. He also served in the United States Army for two years from 1962 to 1964. In 1967 he started the Ralph Lauren Corporation with men’s ties. Apart from his global multi-billion dollar enterprise, Lauren is also known for his rare automobile collection. Though he did step down as the CEO of his company in 2015, he still remains executive chairman and chief creative officer of the company. According to Forbes, in 2018, the worth of his wealth was an estimated $7.2 billion. Which made him the 91st richest person in America.

6. CALVIN KLEIN

American fashion designer Calvin Richard Klein launched his company Calvin Klein Inc. in 1968. Klein was raised in the Jewish immigrant community in the Bronx, with several other design leaders including Ralph Lauren. After Klein’s major first showing at New York Fashion Week, he was immediately recognized for his talent, especially in creating clean lines. Many hailed him as the new Yves Saint Laurent. Kleins designed signature jeans grossed $200,000 in their first week of sales in 1974. Later that year he also became the first designer to receive the award for outstanding design in men’s and women’s wear from the CFDA.

7. VALENTINO GARAVANI

Italian fashion designer Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani is the founder of the Valentino brand and company. In 1959, Garavani started his line and it didn’t take much time for him to become one among the best and popular designers in the world. In 2006, Valentino was honored with the Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur by France’s President Chirac. Valentino retired in 2008.

8. MICHAEL KORS

The American fashion designer, Michael David Kors is the chief creative officer of his brand Michael Kors. Kors has won many awards throughout his career for his extravagant accessories and his famous ready to wear collection. He established his company in the 80s. In 2019, Michael Kors officially changed his brand’s name to Capri Holdings Limited. Micahel Kors is the chairman and director of the company. Kors love for fashion started at a very young age. Kors began to design clothes and sell them out of his parents’ basement in his teenage. Michael Kors is a worldwide known and respected designer.

9. TOM FORD

The American fashion designer Thomas Carlyle Ford is one of the most famous designers in the world. Before launching his own luxury brand in 2006, Ford has served as the Creative Director at both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Ford is famous as a versatile genius. Apart from being one of the best designers, he is also a film director, screenwriter, and film producer. Ford’s directed movies A Single Man and Nocturnal Animals were nominated in the Academy Awards.

10. MARC JACOBS

The American designer previously the creative director of the French design house Louis Vuitton. Jacobs is the head designer of his label Marc Jacobs. In 2010, Jacob featured in Time Magazine’s list of 100 most influential people in the world. Jacobs has been honoured with many awards for his skills in fashion. He was honoured with an award called Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. Jacobs was also listed as one of the 50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America by Out magazine.
