But there are also some other celebrities who have ruined their own career over a scandal. so, here’s our list of biggest celebrity scandals in Hollywood.
- Errol Flynn’s Trial for Statutory Rape
In 1943 one of the biggest scandals happened in the history of Hollywood. Australia born American actor, Errol Flynn is best known for his role in the movie The Adventures Of Robin Hood as Robin Hood was accused and stood trial for statutory rape. Flynn was one of the biggest actors in Hollywood at that time. Though Flynn had claimed of being innocent, his well-known quotes like, “I like my whiskey old and my women young,” wasn’t really helpful. He was accused by Peggy Satterlee and Betty Hansen, who were 17 years old. Flynn’s high power layers worked very hard. In the end, Flynn was released as he was found not guilty. After the verdict one of the victims said, “I knew those women would acquit him. They just sat and looked adoringly at him as if he was their son or something.” But this didn’t prevent his likeness towards younger women. He met 19 years old Nora Eddington during the trial and later got married to her. Even at the age of 50 before dying, he was dating a girl named Beverly Aadland who was just 15 years old at that time.
2. TIM ALLEN’S ARREST FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING
On October 2, 1978, before becoming everyone’s favorite Santa Claus in The Santa Clause film trilogy, Tim Allen was arrested for dealing drugs including cocaine. He was caught at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport for possession of over 650 grams of cocaine. Allen pleaded guilty and became an informant in exchange for a sentence of three to seven years rather than possible life imprisonment. On June 12, 1981, after serving two years and four months in Federal Correctional Institution in Minnesota he got paroled. Allen was arrested again in 1997 for DUI in Michigan. And was sentenced to one-year probation.
3. MARVIN GAYE’S MURDER
The American musician who was famously known as the Prince of Motown was killed on April 1, 1984. Marvin was fatally shot by Marvin Gay Sr., his father. He was shot twice after he intervening in an argument between his parents at their California house. He got in an altercation with his father. According to Gaye’s brother Frankie, who held him in his last moments, Marvin’s last words were “I got what I wanted…I couldn’t do it myself, so I made him do it.”. Several musical tributes were inspired by Gaye’s death. Marvin Gaye’s still remains as one of the saddest and scandalous deaths in Hollywood history.
4. ROB LOWE’S SEX TAPE
Leaked sex tapes are one of the very common scandals among celebrities. Rob Lowe the American actor was a teen in the 1980s. Rob Lowe’s career was going great as he was starring in movies like The Outsiders, The Hotel New Hampshire, and Oxford Blues. Until in 1988, a video of the then-24-year-old actor having sex with two women was leaked. It was reportedly recorded the night before the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta. After the video surfaced it revealed that one of the girls was only 16 years old. The girl’s mother took action and Lowe was charged with a civil lawsuit. Rob settled the case by paying her a large amount of money and doing 20 hours of community service.
5. PAUL REUBENS ARRESTED FOR MASTURBATING IN PUBLIC
Paul Reubens, best known as Pee-wee Herman was arrested for masturbating in public. Reubens was caught for indecent exposure in an adult theatre called XXX South Trail Cinema in Florida in July 1991. This was the event that changed the general public’s view of Reubens and Pee-wee. The arrest postponed all of Reuben’s projects. Reportedly Reubens was at the theatre to watch three movies. And when the detectives caught him in the act and arrested the kid’s show host, he apparently offered them to perform at a children’s benefit if they dropped the charges against him.
6. SEXUAL ABUSE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST MICHAEL JACKSON
In 1993, Michael Jackson was accused by Evan Chandler, a dentist, for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old boy named Jordan Chandler. On August 16, Jackson offered $350,000 to Chandler and his attorney Barry Rothman but they rejected. After the accusations started going public, due to his health issues from the scandal Jackson canceled his tour. He later settled the case by paying the Chandlers $23,000. The allegations affected his public image and commercial standing pretty badly. In the following decades, Jackson was again accused of molestation of a 13-year-old boy named Gavin Arvizo. It leads to a trial and Jackson was found not guilty. In 2009, Evan Chandler committed suicide in his New Jersey apartment, after five months of Jackson’s death.
7. SEXUAL ACCUSATION AGAINST HARVEY WINSTON
In October 2017, a few dozens of women accused Harvey Winston who is an American film producer of rape and sexual assault for over 30 years of a period. It was reported The New York Times and The New Yorker. Since then more than 80 women in the film industry have come out about being assaulted by Weinstein. After denying at first, Weinstein was arrested in New York. He was charged with rape and other offences. He has been released on bail. The scandal triggered the social media campaign #Metoo. And women from all over the world started to talk about their own experiences of sexual assaults.
8. WOODY ALLEN’S MARRIAGE
iN 1997, Woody Allen, the American writer, and director married his then-girlfriend Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter. The Academy Award winner married 27-year-old Soon-Yi Previn when he was 62. When the news of the couple’s relationship was first publicly broke in the media in 1992, it became a major scandal. Allen was famous for his writing cutting, intelligent one-liners. He was romantically involved with Mia Farrow from the early 1980s.
9. R. KELLY ARRESTED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
R. Kelly the chart-topping R&B singer was arrested for making child pornography 2002. The singer was accused on 21 counts of child pornography. After the Chicago Sun-Times received a tape of the singer having sex and urinating on an underage woman. Kelly pleaded not guilty after being charged. After this incident, many women have claimed of being held in a sex cult by the singer. It started the hashtag #MuteRKelly. Spotify was the first company to take action against the singer.
10. THE SEX TAPE OF KIM KARDASHIAN
Talk about building an empire out of a scandal. Before all of this scandalous event, Kim was only known as being pals with Paris Hilton. In 2002 Kim Kardashian with her then-boyfriend Willie “Ray J” Norwood. And the couple reportedly filmed a sex tape Cabo, Mexico, during their tour. It was released 5 years later to the public. In an attempt to prevent the film from being accessible, Kim sued him. But it’s still on the internet.
