One of the favorite movie genre among the masses, action movies are always a great source of entertainment. There are movies like Die Hard that has become a classic action movie, or movies like The Dark Knight that has a darker theme, and there are the war movies like Saving Private Ryan that simply touched our hearts. We all have a few if not many favorite action movie. So here’s our list of action movies that we think worth a watch if you haven’t watched it yet.

1. DIE HARD

The 1988 action thriller directed by John McTiernan and written by Steven E. de Souza and Jeb Stuart, is considered to be one of the best action thrillers of all time. This was the first film of the Die Hard series. The movie is based on a 1979 novel called Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. Made on a budget of $28 million, this became a huge hit and earned more than $140 million worldwide. The movie also established Bruce Wills as one of the best action heroes. He played the role of a detective named McClane who learns about a hostage situation in an office building with his wife being one of the hostages after coming home for the holidays. Die Hard is often considered to be one of the greatest films.

2. MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland Mad Max: Fury Road is an action movie released in 2015. The story revolves around a desert where petrol and water are scarce commodities. The movie stars Tom Hardy as Max, a drifter, and survivor, who unwillingly joins forces with Imperator Furiosa played by Charlize Theron, who is a rebel warrior, with a purpose to overthrow a tyrant who controls the land’s water supply. Directed by George Miller Mad Max earned a lot of praises from the critics and also rated as the best film of 2015. It was also successful at the box office earning more than $378 million worldwide. It was nominated in the Best Picture category at the Oscars that year. Though it didn’t win the best film, it did manage to win 6 Oscars that year in other categories.

3. TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY

The sequel of the 1984 film The Terminator, Terminator 2 was the highest grossing movie of 1991. Directed by James Cameron this movie was a breakthrough in visual effects. The movie was both critically and commercially successful. The movie won several awards including four Academy Awards. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick, and Edward Furlong, this movie, this movie has been dubbed as one of the best action movies of all time, one of the greatest science fiction films and sequels of all time. This movie has been the inspiration behind many popular culture movies. Especially in the use of CGI.

4. INDIANA JONES AND THE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

The first installment in the Indiana Jones movie franchise, Indiana Jones and The Raiders of The Ark was written from a story by George Lucas and Phillip Kaufman. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this film was 1981’s highest grossing movie. And it’s still one of the highest grossing movies adjusted for inflation. The movie stars Harrison Fords as Indiana Jones who is archaeologist battling a group of Nazis for the Ark of the Covenant. The film won 5 Academy Awards and has been preserved in the U.S. Library of Congress’ National Film Registry.

5. THE DARK KNIGHT

Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight is undoubtedly one of the best superhero movies of all time. This movie made and broke many records in the year of 2008 including becoming the highest grossing film of that year and the 37th highest grossing film of all time. This movie was highly praised by critics and was nominated for many awards including the Academy Awards where it earned eight nominations. Although the hero of the movie was Batman played by Christian Bale it is going to be remembered because of the character Joker. Heath Ledger’s exceptional portrayal of the character Joker was marvelous and stole everyone’s heart. Joker has become one of the best on-screen villains of all time and a fan favorite. The Dark Knight is Ledger’s last. He received an Oscar(posthumously) for his part in the film.

6. THE MATRIX

The Matrix is a science fiction action movie and it is dubbed as one of the best movies in that category. it released in the year of 1999 and was very well-received by the critics. This movie also earned more than $460 million worldwide while it was made in the budget of $63 million. Directed by The Wachowskis, The Matrix also won four Academy Awards. The movie about a programmer named Thomas Anderson, who is fighting an underground war against a system called Matrix which was constructed by powerful computers.

7. LOGAN

Logan is another superhero movie from the X-Men franchise. Directed by James Mangold, Logan became one of the best movies of 2017 and one of the best superhero movies of all time. The movie was successful in both ways, critically and financially. It earned more than $619 million worldwide and became the fifth highest grossing R-rated movie ever. The movie was very much appreciated for its screenplay and earned a nomination at the Oscars that year. The performances of Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine, and Patrick Stewart and all the other actors were simply remarkable. This movie will always be one of the best action-superhero movies ever made and absolutely worth a watch.

8. BOURNE IDENTITY

The Bourne Identity is about a man, who was founded injured and taken care of by strangers. He suffers from extreme memory loss and begins a journey to learn about his identity. And in order to do that, he has to face some very dangerous circumstances. This movie is an action pack thriller and a favorite among many action movie lovers. Directed by Doug Liman this movie is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Ludlum’s. Matt Demon did a fabulous job portraying Jason Bourne and is treat to watch.

9. BABY DRIVER

The story of the movie Baby Driver is about Baby who is a former getaway driver gets forced to participate in a robbery, in exchange for his girlfriend’s safety. But the plan goes wrong when their arms dealers turn out to be undercover officers. This 2017 movie is directed by Edgar Wright and starred Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, and Lily James. Though the movie had mixed reviews it was well-received by audiences. It also received three nominations that year at the Academy Awards. This movie is definitely worth a watch.

10. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN

One of the greatest war movies ever made, Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 movie directed by Steven Spielberg. The film is set during the time of the Invasion of Normandy in World War II. This movie is one of the best movies of all time. From the directing to the performances especially Tom Hanks portrayal of United States Army Rangers Captain John H. Miller was simply extraordinary. The movie became the 2nd highest grossing movie of that year earning over $481 million worldwide. It was also critically acclaimed and won five Oscars that year. The movie has been preserved at the National Film Registry. This heartfelt movie is a must watch for everyone.
