By analyzing these cities living conditions and comparing to the other cities, Mercer took account of 39 factors, from the political, economic and social environment to education, health, public service, and others. Here are the ten cities according to the survey that is worst to live in the world.

10. Conakry, Guinea Republic:


Conakry is the capital of Guinea and home to the fourth largest mosque in Africa. Despite having much mineral wealth which makes it potentially one of Africa’s richest countries, its people are among the poorest in West Africa. The instability in neighboring countries and armed banditry in West AfricaGuinea have made Guinea quite unsafe. In its cities, people are advised to avoid traveling after dark outside of populated areas. Lack of public transportation, roadside crime, roadblocks, and road hazards and regular power and water cuts have made this city one of the worst city to live in the world.

9. Kinshasa, The Democratic Republic of the Congo:


Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the ninth worst city to live in. Congo is potentially one of the richest countries on earth with its untapped deposits of raw minerals, but colonialism, slavery, and corruption have turned it into one of the poorest. Travelers are often told to reconsider travel to Congo due to crime and civil unrest. Kinshasa is often considered as one of the few safe regions during daylight, there are still serious security threats. The city has highly affluent neighborhoods and sprawling slums with extremely poor living facilities and many youth gangs.

Brazzaville is located opposite Kinshasa on the north side of the Congo River. With similar problems to Kinshasa, Brazzaville has been ranked as the eighth worst city to live in the world. In Syria, Damascus is known as aš-Šām and titled the “City of Jasmine”. It is the capital city of the country and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Damascus is home to over 2,000 mosques and the only stock exchange in the country. Syria and its people have been badly affected by the war. The environment of the city and corruption has become a major issue.

N’Djamena is the capital of Chad, a landlocked in central Africa with a population of about 7 million. Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world and the residents across Chad faces problems like a high number of crimes, terrorism. Terrorists might attack with no warning, targeting foreigners, local security forces, and civilians. 63 percent of Chadians live a life in poverty and they also have an extremely low life expectancy. They lack basic education and food insecurity is also rising in the country.
