Not surprisingly the majority of the most populous cities, in the World City Populations 2019 ranking by World Population Review, belongs to India and China, two of the most populated countries in the world. Istanbul (over 14.5 million) is the most populous city in Europe followed by Moscow (over 12 million) and Paris (11 million). Here are the 10 most populous cities in the world 2019 according to World Population Review.

1. Tokyo:

The capital of Japan came out in top this year. In 2018, Tokyo had a population of 37,468,302 and with -0.09% change it has a population of 37,435,191 as of 2019. Officially known as a “metropolitan prefecture,” Tokyo is home to one of the most visited mountains in the world, Mount Takao. Tokyo is also one of the most expensive cities in the world with extremely busy public transportation.

2. Delhi:

Delhi is the second most populated city in the world with a population of 29,399,141 as of 2019. It had a change of 3.11% from its population of 2018 which was 28,513,682. With historical architecture sites and modern lifestyle, Delhi presents a unique blend of modern and traditional India. Delhi has one of the largest public transportation systems in India and it is also one of the most polluted cities in the world.

3. Shanghai:

The global financial hub, Shanghai is the biggest city in China. The city is also home to one of the busiest city airport systems by passenger traffic annually.
