 On August 31, 2019, the upcoming Joker movie premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. The movie was flooded with compliments and reportedly it even received a standing ovation. The excitement for the next Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips was already high. Joker is one of the most iconic villains of all time and the best in the DC Universe. And after Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the character, Joker has garnered even more fans across the world. We still gotta wait a little while as the movie is set to release on October 4. 1. It’s Going To Be Dark:

     DCEU is known for its dark and grimy attitude. Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy had the perfect dark undertone. The undertone that was missing in movies like Man of Steel and Batman V Superman. Reportedly the next Joker movie is going to the darkest of them all. The movie is getting compared to movies like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. 

2. Different Than Jared Leto’s:

    Most of the fans were disappointed by the Joker’s portrayal in Suicide Squad. First Jared Leto’s Joker didn’t have much to do in the movie as the screen time was so little. And second, a lot of fans were turned off because of the Joker was portrayed including his looks. In Suicide Squad, Joker was more of a punk gangster than an evil mastermind. But the upcoming Joker movie will focus more on how Arthur Fleck turned into Joker. And it will have no connection to Leto’s Joker. Although Leto’s Joker will be back in another movie.

3. The Plot:

    The upcoming Joker movie will be an origin story taking place in the ’80s. There will be no Batman, at least not in his suit. So the Joker, before becoming Joker, was Arthur Fleck. Arthur was a stand-up comedian who was continuously disregarded by society. After much suffering, the failed comedian will go insane turning to a life of crime and chaos. He will motivate people to protest against capitalism and the rich and will create chaos in Gotham city. 

4. The Cast:

    At this point, we all know that Joaquin Phoenix will be playing Joker. But as the movie takes place before Batman, we will see a lot of other important characters. Robert De Niro will be playing Murray Franklin, a TV show host who might play a key role in Arthur’s journey into Joker. Zazie Beetz will be playing the role of Sophie Dumond, a single mother and possibly Arthur’s love interest. Arthur’s mother, Penny Fleck will be portrayed by Frances Conroy. Alec Baldwin was initially selected for the role of Thomas Wayne but he was later replaced by Brett Cullen. Dante Pereira-Olson is going to play young Bruce Wayne and Alfred will be played by Douglas Hodge.

5. Separate From DCEU:

     As Jared Leto is already playing Joker, Phoenix’s Joker started a lot of confusion. The makers have said that there going to be in two separate universes. With this movie, they have intentions to launch DC Black. These series will have independent DC films separate from the DC Extended Universe. 

6. Nothing Like The Comics:

    According to the makers, they didn’t follow the comics to make this movie. This movie is going to be more about Arthur and his sufferings. They also said that Phoenix was their first choice for the movie. 

7. Robert De Niro’s Role:

     Though, not much has been revealed about De Niro’s role in the movie. But reportedly, this role will pay homage to De Niro’s King of Comedy character Rupert Pupkin. The actor has done such dark movies including Taxi Driver and Good Fellas.   

8. Joaquin Phoenix Had To Lose A Few Pound For The Role:

    Joaquin Phoenix had to drop a couple of pounds for his looks in the movie. He became notably thin during the shooting of the movie. Fans are even begun to point our how he actually started to look more and more like Joker. 

9. Joaquin Phoenix Was Offered A Role In The MCU:

    Reportedly, Joaquin Phoenix was interested in acting in a “character study” type of film. He was offered to act in the MCU before but he declined. As he wanted to play something different than the roles he was offered such as the Hulk and Doctor Strange. He also declined the first time he was suggested for setting up a meeting with Warner Bros. Director Todd Phillips has also previously declined comic-based films. As Todd Phillips created Joker to be like a low budget and more grounded comic movie, Phoenix agreed.

10. Release Date:

      The movie is going to release on October 4, 2019, in the United States. On August 31, 2019, it premiered at the Venice Film Festival and on September 9, 2019, it’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie is receiving great reviews such as IMDB gave it a rating of 9.7/100 and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rating of 89%. Joaquin Phoenix’s acting was also greatly praised.
