Japan’s highest-grossing movie is about a 10-year-old girl named Chihiro. Chihiro and her Parents mistakenly wander into a park which is a resort for supernatural beings. Her parents then get turned into giant pigs. Now Chihiro has to work there to free herself and her parents. Spirited Away won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature becoming the only Japanese film and only hand-drawn film ever to do so.

Set in the time of World War II, Grave of the Fireflies is about Seita, a teenager and his younger sister, Setsuko. Both the kids get separated from their parents after the American bombing. Their struggle to stay alive and stay together is heartbreaking and realistic. Based on a 1967 semi-autobiographical story, Grave of the Fireflies is one of the best movies ever made.

The 1997 movie is about a young Emishi prince, Ashitaka who along with his place is in a struggle between humans and forest gods over the consumption of resources. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Princess Mononoke was visually breathtaking and with an equally fantastic story line.

Stumbling into the land of the dead is a boy named Miguel who wants to be a singer but his family is against it. Another Oscar-winning animation movie by Pixar, Coco is an emotional journey of a young boy. The movie also won an Oscar for Best Original Song and stunning visuals.

Inside Out is all about the voices in our heads presented in a very fun and emotional way. The movie is about eleven-year-old Riley having to move because of her parents and her core emotions, Fear, Anger, Joy, Disgust and Sadness. The story about a young girl in a new city struggling to pull it together and keep up with all her emotions is quite relatable. Creative, clever writing, lush visuals, heart touching with a good message made Inside Out stand out helping it to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film.
